Monarch Airlines is one of only a few that operate both scheduled
and charter flights.
Monarch's scheduled operation is quite healthy, offering routes to mostly Spanish holiday
destinations, mainly from Manchester ,Luton, and Birmingham but also from Gatwick, and they even have a flight from Aberdeen.
So if you are checking out the website for information, be sure to read the correct
information regarding the type of flight you are taking, as some rules and services (like the in flight meals) differ
between scheduled and charter operations.
Most of the short haul aircraft have the 3 - 3 seating layout.
Monarch are the only UK airline to operate the Airbus A300, which are used on short
to medium range destinations. The layout on these aircraft are 3 - 3 - 3 or 2 - 3 - 2 towards the rear. So if your travelling
as a couple and can establish that you will be on a A300, then try to pre book a seat at the rear of the aircraft.
The sole B767 is a 2 - 4 - 2 layout in economy which is great if you are travelling
as a couple.
The A330 is a similar layout to the A300 with mainly a 3 - 3 - 3 layout but with 2
- 3 - 2 towards the rear. So again if you want to be alone, then pre book them back row seats!
All Monarch aircraft have underslung wings, which means, if it is views your after,
then avoid the centre of the aircraft.
Forward of the wings are quite nice as it is a bit quiter and completely unrestricted
viewing.
So if you book your holiday through a tour operator and the flight code is MON, then
your flying with Monarch.
